USAID/OFDA activates a hotline service in Washington, DC at the time of a major international disaster response effort. The purpose of the hotline is to receive calls from the public and give guidance on effective donations.
USAID/OFDA solicits for hotline volunteers when the hotline is activated, and when the number of donations inquiries exceeds what can be effectively managed by current staff. The volunteers receive initial training in the anticipated queries and expected responses. Training is conducted in Washington, DC. Volunteers work under the supervision and support of USAID/OFDA staff. The schedule is based upon the availability of volunteers. Volunteers must be in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
