Fairfax County, Virginia. October 5, 2002 - (CIDI)
The Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) staff joined
hundreds of exhibitors and vendors to celebrate the 10th Annual Fall
for Fairfax Festival. CIDI provides the public and the private sector
with the tools and information needed to make informed decisions regarding
appropriate response to international crises. The Center occupied a booth
in the business section next to the communication and health groups. The
atmosphere was conducive to the Center’s goals, and CIDI was able to
deliver its message to the citizens of Fairfax County.
The Annual Fall for Fairfax Festival was Fairfax County’s Family
Homecoming Event. A beautiful fall day with autumn attractions,
educational exhibits and more than 30,000 visitors on Fairfax County
Government Center’s 7-acre Ellipse begins to describe the Festival. The
event was designed to engage the interests and enthusiasms of the
families of Fairfax County. Tasty food vendors, games and activities
to engage the entire family, particularly the younger generation, and
a farmers market joined with business exhibitors to compete for the
attention of the thousands of Fairfax county families.
Many parents with their children, even grandparents, came to visit the
CIDI booth to learn about appropriate in-kind donations for
international emergencies. Once more CIDI was pleased to note the
genuine interest of the middle, secondary and college student groups
who have an interest in humanitarian affairs and want to learn more
about how to become involved. Everyone was interested in preparedness,
mitigation and prevention activities.
