CIDI Helps Celebrate Fairfax
June 6-7-8, 2003
Fairfax County Government Center
Press Release: 10 June 2003

Fairfax County, Virginia, June 6-8, 2003 – The unique "Celebrate Fairfax" technical, music and entertainment festival is the most anticipated annual event in Fairfax County, a community of more than a million residents. This was the second year that the Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) joined hundreds of exhibitors at the Festival.

CIDI's exhibit was located in the Business Expo tent not far from the entrance and thousands of visitors strolled through the technical tent en route to the entertainment, musical, and shopping events. Also, CIDI had the opportunity to meet many and diverse multi-cultural exhibitors and to share and exchange information with them on appropriate activities during an international disaster.

One of the major objectives of the CIDI program is to educate the public about appropriate in-kind donation activities for international disaster relief. The festival venue provides an ideal outreach opportunity to meet and talk to thousands of receptive visitors.

The 2003 Fairfax Festival was no exception. Despite inclement weather, and one full day closed because of heavy rain, hundreds of visitors passed the CIDI booth. Many stopped to volunteer for training to work our hotline during international disaster activities.

Attendees will go back to their families, communities, workplaces and places of worship to share what they have learned about how best individuals, groups and corporations can provide assistance to victims of disaster around the globe.
