Notes:

1.  Volunteers without prior disaster relief experience are generally not selected for relief assignments.  Candidates with the greatest chance of being selected have fluency in the language of the disaster-stricken area, prior disaster relief experience, and expertise in technical fields such as medicine, communications logistics, water/sanitation engineering. In many cases, these professionals are already available in-country.  Most agencies will require at least ten years of experience, as well as several years of experience working overseas. It is not unusual to request that volunteers make a commitment to spend at least three months working on a particular disaster.  Most offers of another body to drive trucks, set up tents, and feed children are not accepted.  Keep in mind that once a relief agency accepts a volunteer, they are responsible for the volunteer's well-being - i.e., food, shelter, health and security.  Resources are strained during a disaster, and another person without the necessary technical skills and experience can often be a considerable burden to an ongoing relief effort.

2.  Before completing this form, please review the Guidelines for Making a Disaster Relief Response.   The information provided by corporations that wish to sell commodities will be made accessible to ONLY the United States Government and relief and development agencies registered as 501(c)3 entities with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  Registering your company's information with the Center for International Disaster Information in no way guarantees that a relief or development agency will use your offers of technical expertise or material assistance.  It is the responsibility of any receiving agency using a corporation's goods or services to verify the quality and quantity of assistance offered.  Companies seeking United States Government contracts for goods and services should refer to Federal Business Opportunities (www.fedbizopps.gov).

3.  The information you have provided may be accessed by relief and development agencies seeking qualified personnel or appropriate goods and services.

There is no value in contacting the CIDI for follow-up.   If an agency is interested in your offer of services or products, they will contact you directly.  The CIDI does not itself evaluate or use offered technical services, but instead makes the offers available to organizations working in the affected areas.

It is important to note that registering information through the CIDI web site does not guarantee that the services you have offered will be used by a relief or development agency.
